FAQ
Following are a list of questions and answers offered to provide insight on how we might help you. Please contact us for more information.

Q: What is the advantage of having a PPM resource? Why not hire someone directly?

Equipment and material suppliers may be able to help get your product to market, but there's no substitute for your own packaging expert.   A: For new products, new organizations, or production problems, a PPM resource will have an immediate impact. For projects that have a specific goal or duration, why hire somebody for the job just to relocate or retrain them later? Relocating people with the right expertise can be costly and time consuming.

Q: How could a PPM resource possibly understand the complexity of our situation in a short amount of time?

A: That’s a valid point, but that is precisely where PPM can be most helpful. Our experience has taught us how to ask the right questions, and adapt to new situations quickly. For the past 18 years we have worked with personnel from management to production to warehouse departments, giving us valuable perspectives on integrated systems and organizations.

Q: What if we can’t define the project clearly at this point?

A: If the definition is not clear in our first discussions, a "discovery period" may be required to learn more about the project. In our experience, the period ranges from 5-10 business days, resulting in a set of goals and project criteria for our client.

Q: How does a PPM resource compare to direct hire?

A: A consultant is essentially a contractor, brought in to help with projects. We bring our own resources (computer, cell, etc), and cover our own taxes and insurance. Clients save money by expensing a PPM resource for the duration of the project instead of adding staff to overhead.

Q: Why should I have someone else manage a project? How do I maintain control?

We understand the importance of cost control, quality, compliance and
time-to-market issues.
A: In most cases, a large scope project will conflict with your other responsibilities. PPM will encourage teamwork, and keep projects on track. Our project management skills, periodic reports, and consistent communication give you the time and peace of mind to concentrate on core tasks.

Q: We have a strong relationship with a capable vendor, why not have them manage the whole project?
A: Vendors are seldom a good substitute for your own expertise, because they are focused on their business, not yours. While they share many of your goals for a period of 6 months to one year, you will live with the production equipment for an average of 15 years. An independent perspective can critically evaluate function, flexibility and reliability without conflict of interest.

Q: How are performance tests used?
Our goal is to increase productivity which translates to increased
revenue

A: When purchasing packaging equipment, we specify at least one performance test, to confirm that the machine meets all the requirements. The method and acceptance requirements are explained in a specification document and included in the terms of the purchase order.

Q: What is a CPP – Certified Packaging Professional?
A: The Institute of Packaging Professionals, www.IoPP.org, administers a certification process and awards the CPP designation. A Certified Packaging Professional must have at least 6 years of experience in packaging and is required to demonstrate a broad knowledge of applied packaging technology by writing articles, speaking engagements and other means.
